I want to return to college and finish my degree. Can I still get an Iowa Tuition Grant?
Yes. There are lots of good reasons to finish your degree even if you’ve already been out in the working world for several years. One of the most important reasons is that it’s estimated more than two-thirds of new jobs in Iowa by 2025 will require education beyond high school. The Iowa Tuition Grant (ITG) can help you pay for your college tuition while you’re working.
To find out if you’re eligible for an ITG, you follow the same process as if you had just graduated from high school. You fill out a form called the FAFSA, which will determine if you’re financially eligible. Peruse this website and you’ll find a video that shows how to complete the form and a direct link to fill out the form electronically.
The great thing about the ITG is that you can use it at any private, non-profit college or university in Iowa. So if you want to keep working in your hometown while finishing your degree, there’s likely a great college or university nearby where you can apply the grant toward your tuition cost. The ITG maximum grant is $6,000 per year so it will make a big difference for you. Remember, it’s a grant, not a loan, so you don’t pay it back.
